Tommy Fleetwood Conquers the India Championship with a Spectacular Comeback
In a display of exceptional play, Tommy Fleetwood capped off a golden season with a resounding victory at the India Championship. The English golfer, fueled by an impressive streak of birdies, secured the title with a card of 65 strokes, seven under par, surpassing Keita Nakajima by two strokes. This victory marks the third significant achievement for Fleetwood in recent months, adding to his triumph in the FedEx Cup and his outstanding performance in the Ryder Cup with the European team. Nakajima, who led the competition at the start of the final round, struggled to keep pace against the relentless Fleetwood. The latter, with a series of four consecutive birdies starting from the seventh hole, transformed a two-stroke deficit into an advantage that would seal his victory. For Fleetwood, this victory represents his eighth title on the European circuit and allows him to access the last two events of the season on the European calendar, the Abu Dhabi Championship and the Tour Championship in Dubai. A special moment for Fleetwood was the celebration with his eight-year-old son Frankie, who ran to greet him on the 18th hole green. Nakajima, despite his effort, finished with a round of 69 strokes, securing a place among the top ten players on the European circuit eligible to obtain a PGA Tour card next year. Shane Lowry, Thriston Lawrence, and Alex Fitzpatrick shared third place in the rankings. Rory McIlroy, in his first participation in India, finished in 26th place.I feel that, despite all the good that has happened this year, some things have disappointed me. Another victory feels great.
