Despite his seven victories on the DP World Tour and three other global triumphs, Fleetwood had not managed to conquer a PGA Tour event until this Sunday. Rory McIlroy, who tied for 23rd with a pair of 70 strokes, expressed his joy for Fleetwood.
Before this triumph, Fleetwood accumulated 30 top-five finishes without achieving a victory, the most on the PGA Tour in the last 100 years. Fleetwood was close to victory on two recent occasions, including the Travelers Championship and the FedEx St. Jude Championship, which adds special value to his victory at the Tour Championship. On Sunday, Fleetwood consolidated his lead with birdies on holes 12 and 13, securing the victory with a three-stroke lead on the 18th hole. Scottie Scheffler’s performance, who was looking to win the FedEx Cup for the second consecutive year, was affected by a complicated start and a double bogey on the 15th hole. Scheffler finished in a tie for fourth place with 14 under par. Corey Conners and Cameron Young also shared fourth place. Keegan Bradley, the captain of the United States Ryder Cup team, struggled in his game, including a double bogey on the 15th hole. Bradley will announce his Ryder Cup selections on Wednesday.
