Matt Fitzpatrick’s Parents to Miss 2025 Ryder Cup Due to Security Concerns

Professional golfer Matt Fitzpatrick revealed that his parents will not be attending the Ryder Cup in New York, due in part to the behavior of the public. The European team, where Fitzpatrick participates, is expected to face a hostile atmosphere from the local fans during the competition against the United States at Bethpage Black, which will begin on Friday. Fitzpatrick, who will participate in his fourth Ryder Cup, had already been booed at the 2021 event at Whistling Straits. As a result, his parents have chosen not to attend this time, although their participation in the upcoming Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, where his other son, Alex, is also competing, also influenced their decision.

They didn’t have a great experience at Whistling Straits. That’s not a lie or anything like that. But there’s also the fact that my two parents will play next week at the Dunhill. They also didn’t want to ruin that experience, because obviously it’s special to have it.

Fitzpatrick explained that the decision was a combination of factors, including the long trip and the exhausting week of the Ryder Cup, added to the desire to fully enjoy the Dunhill tournament. Despite missing his parents, Fitzpatrick understands their decision and focuses on what is best for them.

The golfer, who has already been booed during training, is determined not to be affected by the criticism.

I’m from Sheffield, so that’s a good start. The fans are the ones who make this event. They’re the ones who make this event so fun, so special, and obviously it’s a great opportunity for us to come and try and play our best golf in front of them.

Fitzpatrick, 31, rose to prominence by winning the 2022 U.S. Open, but his Ryder Cup record is not favorable, having earned only one point in eight appearances. Fitzpatrick concluded by saying: “Obviously it’s frustrating, but the only thing I can do is keep qualifying for the teams and keep giving myself the opportunity to improve my record.”
