Matt Fitzpatrick leads the British Masters
English golfer Matt Fitzpatrick is at the top of the British Masters after a standout round on Saturday, solidifying his aspirations to be part of the European Ryder Cup team led by captain Luke Donald.
Fitzpatrick, 30, completed the course with a score of 68 strokes, four under par, thanks to four birdies and two bogeys. His performance included an impressive eagle on the 15th hole, allowing him to reach a total of 12 under par after three rounds.
The English player maintains a narrow lead over Swede Alex Noren, who recorded a round of 65 strokes and is positioned in second place. Marco Penge, for his part, tied the course record with an impressive card of 63 strokes, which catapulted him to third place, just two strokes behind Fitzpatrick, after achieving nine birdies.
Rasmus Hojgaard, with a round of 69 strokes, is in 14th position and needs to finish in a tie for 29th place or better to surpass Shane Lowry in the ranking and secure his place on the European team.
Rory McIlroy, Justin Rose, Tommy Fleetwood, Robert MacIntyre and Tyrrell Hatton have already secured their participation in the next Ryder Cup.
Captain Luke Donald will announce the remaining six selections to complete the team on September 1st.
