Luke Donald Warns About American Fans’ Reaction at the Ryder Cup
Luke Donald has expressed his concern about the possible reaction of American fans at the upcoming Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black. According to Donald, the local fans could turn against the Team USA players due to the financial compensation they will receive for participating in the event. The captain and each player of Team USA will receive $500,000 this week, of which $300,000 must be donated to charities. In contrast, Team Europe will not receive any personal financial reward. Donald revealed that he anticipated this situation and consulted the 12 players on the European team. The response was unanimous: money is not a motivating factor. “We understand what the event represents. We have a great purpose and that is enough for us,” he stated. The money raised goes to support the European Tour Group and the development of golf. “We are here to inspire the next generation. Our purpose, why we play the Ryder Cup, is quite strong and that’s enough for that week,” Donald added. The Ryder Cup will start on Friday. That could happen. We all know how high ticket prices are, and it’s going to be an expensive trip for a family of four. If the US players are paid a stipend, or whatever, and they’re not performing, New Yorkers could let them know.
