PLYMOUTH, Mich. – Bryson DeChambeau secured a crucial birdie on the final hole on Saturday, outdueling Talor Gooch and leading his team, the Crushers, to the LIV Golf League final. In the final, the Crushers will face Jon Rahm’s team and the Stinger team from South Africa. Rahm’s team, Legion XIII, managed to advance to the final after overcoming the quarterfinals, despite Rahm’s individual defeat against Adrian Meronk. Legion XIII defeated Phil Mickelson, and won the foursomes match, eliminating the HyFlyers.
The Crushers got the necessary extra point thanks to Paul Casey and Charles Howell III, who achieved two birdies in the last three holes, securing a 2-up victory in foursomes. Brooks Koepka got the only point for Smash, defeating Anirban Lahiri.
The pressure then fell on DeChambeau, who was tied with Gooch until he sealed the victory with a birdie. Legion XIII accumulated four team victories, while the Crushers achieved three, consolidating as numbers 1 and 2 in the overall team ranking this year. In Sunday’s final, they will be joined by Stinger, who, despite being ranked number 7 in the regular season standings, managed to beat Sergio Garcia’s team in the quarterfinals and defeated Joaquin Niemann’s Torque team in the semifinals. The format on Sunday will change from match play (two singles and a foursomes match) to stroke play, where the scores of the four players will be counted. The other teams will compete for different positions. It should be noted that the Crushers won the team title two years ago.
