DeChambeau Wants to Compete with His Ryder Cup Team in a PGA Tour Event
Bryson DeChambeau expressed his desire to participate in a PGA Tour event alongside his Ryder Cup teammates. This event would serve as preparation for the confrontation against the European team at Bethpage Black, New York, at the end of September. However, there is an obstacle: currently, the PGA Tour does not allow it. As a LIV Golf player, DeChambeau is not eligible to compete in PGA Tour events. This would prevent him from participating in the Procore Championship in Napa, California, an event scheduled two weeks before the Ryder Cup. The American captain, Keegan Bradley, has expressed his desire for American players to participate in this tournament to stay in shape.DeChambeau commented that LIV Golf would be okay with his participation. “It’s an unfortunate situation, and I wish it were different, but LIV is willing to let me play,” he stated. Bradley has already confirmed that DeChambeau will be part of the team. The two-time US Open champion is fifth in the Ryder Cup standings, making him a very likely candidate to be one of the six automatic qualifiers for the United States, which will be announced after this week’s BMW Championship. Bradley will select six players by captain’s choice on August 27, three days after the Tour Championship at East Lake, Atlanta; it is unlikely that there will be a second LIV player on the US team. Americans are looking to recover from the defeat against the European team at the 2023 Ryder Cup in Italy. Most of the American team did not compete between the Tour Championship and the Ryder Cup that year, a period of more than four weeks, and some pointed to this as one of the reasons for their difficulties. That depends on the tour and their decision.
