Bryson DeChambeau, Russell Henley, and Harris English Secure Their Spots on the Ryder Cup Team

The United States Ryder Cup team, which will face the Europeans at Bethpage Black next month, already has its first qualifiers. Bryson DeChambeau, a veteran of the LIV Golf League, along with PGA Tour players Russell Henley and Harris English, secured their place on the team.

These golfers will join prominent figures such as Scottie Scheffler, J.J. Spaun, and Xander Schauffele, who finished among the top six in Ryder Cup points after the final round of the BMW Championship.

The U.S. team captain, Keegan Bradley, will make six captain’s picks on August 27, three days after the final round of the Tour Championship at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta.

Bryson DeChambeau, who secured his second U.S. Open title at Pinehurst No. 2 in 2024, will make his third Ryder Cup appearance. His record in the 2018 and 2021 editions was 2-3-1.

For his part, Harris English will make his second appearance on the American team. In his Ryder Cup debut, he recorded a 1-2-0 record in the Americans’ 19-9 victory at Whistling Straits, Wisconsin. English, currently ranked number 8 in the World Golf Ranking, achieved his first victory on the PGA Tour at the Farmers Insurance Open in January.

English also stood out by tying for second place at the PGA Championship in May and taking second place at The Open in Northern Ireland in July.

Russell Henley, along with Spaun, will debut in the Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black. Henley won his fifth PGA Tour tournament at the Arnold Palmer Invitational in March, and then tied for tenth place at the U.S. Open and The Open.

Henley, ranked fifth in the OWGR, is recognized as one of the best ball-strikers on tour. Before the BMW Championship, he ranked fifth in total strokes gained (1.310), eighth off the tee to green (1.049), and 17th in approach (.543).

Justin Thomas, Collin Morikawa, Ben Griffin, and Bradley completed the top 10 this week.

Bradley, winner of the 2024 BMW Championship, finished tied for 17th place, with 1 under par at Caves Valley Golf Club in Owings Mills, Maryland, on Sunday, 16 strokes behind Scheffler, who won for the fifth time this season.

Bradley commented earlier this week that he still wasn’t sure if he would choose himself as the captain’s selection.

The Ryder Cup will be played from September 26 to 28.
