Allisen Corpuz Leads the FM Championship

Allisen Corpuz demonstrated her patience at the FM Championship, achieving an outstanding start with a round of 7 under par (65), sharing the lead of the first round with Sei Young Kim and Jodi Ewart Shadoff. Corpuz shined with four birdies in his last six holes at TPC Boston, including a 10-foot birdie putt on the 9th hole, matching Kim, who played in more favorable conditions in the morning. Shadoff closed in style, accumulating four consecutive birdies.

I made a lot of putts from over 20 feet, which definitely helps. And then the last four were good shots and some really good putts.

Nelly Korda, who switched to a blade putter, also had an outstanding performance with seven birdies, finishing with a round of 67 in her debut at TPC Boston, a course that previously hosted PGA Tour postseason events. Corpuz, with a victory at the U.S. Women’s Open in Pebble Beach two years ago, has had a year of ups and downs. Despite not achieving the desired results, Corpuz felt she was close to achieving it.

I feel like golf is a very curious game. Although the results haven’t been what I wanted to see, I’ve felt like I’ve been very close all season. It was a good start to the season and I feel like things are starting to change a bit.

Kim, playing in cooler morning conditions, birdied three of the par 5s, but finished with a par on the final hole. Jeeno Thitikul, in her second week since regaining the number 1 spot in the women’s world ranking, stumbled on the 18th hole, finishing with a bogey and a round of 69. The LPGA season has been marked by 22 consecutive tournaments with different winners and Korda without victories. Korda, who won seven titles in 2024, lost the number 1 spot two weeks ago. Her round of 67 placed her in a group of players tied for third place, including Minjee Lee, Celine Boutier, Andrea Lee, and Gurleen Kaur. Korda, who has struggled with Florida courses, decided to try a new putter and a different grip, which gave her good results.

Just something new. I knew I had a lot of success with that type of putter and felt confident with it. I just needed to feel something different.
