Charlie Woods Fails to Advance in the U.S. Junior Amateur
Charlie Woods, son of golf legend Tiger Woods, failed to make the cut at the U.S. Junior Amateur this week in Texas, a tournament his father won three times.
At 16 years old, Woods began the tournament with a round of 81 strokes, 11 over par, at the Brook Hollow Golf Club on Monday. Although he improved his performance with a round of 74 strokes, 3 over par, at the Trinity Forest Golf Club on Tuesday, his total of 155 strokes, 14 over par, was not enough to advance.
The top 64 players advanced to the match play phase, which began on Wednesday. Mason Howell took first place in this year’s event with a score of 134 strokes, 7 under par. Howell, an 18-year-old from Georgia, also qualified for the U.S. Open earlier this year.
Other notable players who advanced to the match play phase were defending champion Trevor Gutschewski; 16-year-old Miles Russell, who has participated in three PGA Tour events in the last two seasons; and Cameron Kuchar, son of PGA Tour player Matt Kuchar.
