Charlie Woods Finishes at the Junior PGA Championship

Charlie Woods, the son of golf legend Tiger Woods, had a notable participation in the Junior PGA Championship, although he did not manage to secure a direct spot on the U.S. Junior Ryder Cup team. Woods, 16, completed the final round with a score of 3 over par, totaling 74 strokes. He started the day tied for second place with a cumulative score of 12 under par at the Ackerman-Allen Course of the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex in West Lafayette, Indiana. However, he failed to maintain the pace in the final round, suffering bogeys and a double bogey that took him away from the top. Finished in a tie for ninth place, with a total of 9 under par. Lunden Esterline, with a commitment to Auburn for 2027, took the championship with an impressive score of 19 under par, securing one of the two spots for the Junior Ryder Cup team. Giuseppe Puebla, with 13 under par, obtained the other place. The United States team will face Europe from September 23 to 25 at the Nassau Country Club and Bethpage Black in New York. Woods is eligible to be selected as the captain’s sole choice next week, but given his position in the ranking, this seems unlikely. Woods, a student at The Benjamin School in Palm Beach, Florida, won the AJGA Team TaylorMade Invitational in May. Recently, he did not make the cut at the U.S. Junior Amateur. In the women’s competition, Asterisk Talley was crowned Junior PGA champion, surpassing Zoe Cusack by one stroke.
