Charlie Woods Finishes at the Junior PGA Championship
Charlie Woods, son of the legendary golfer Tiger Woods, failed to secure a place on the U.S. team for the Junior Ryder Cup. In the final round of the Junior PGA Championship, Woods recorded a 3-over 74, which prevented him from competing for one of the two qualifying spots.
Woods, 16, started the day tied for second place with a total of 12-under par at the Ackerman-Allen Course at the Brick Boilermaker Golf Complex in West Lafayette, Indiana. However, he failed to keep up the pace in the final round. A bogey on the 14th hole and a double bogey on the 15th took him away from the top.
Finished tied in ninth place with a total of 9 under par.
Lunden Esterline, a player committed to Auburn in 2027, won the event with an impressive 19-under-par, securing one of the two automatic spots for the Junior Ryder Cup team. Giuseppe Puebla, who finished at 13-under-par, earned the other spot.
The United States team will face the European team from September 23 to 25 at the Nassau Country Club and Bethpage Black in New York. Woods could be selected as the captain’s only choice next week, although, given his number 20 position in the American Junior Golf Association ranking, it is unlikely.
Woods has never participated in this event.
High school student at The Benjamin School in Palm Beach, Florida, Woods won the AJGA Team TaylorMade Invitational in May. Recently, he failed to make the cut at the U.S. Junior Amateur.
In the women’s competition, Asterisk Talley was crowned Junior PGA champion, surpassing Zoe Cusack by one stroke.
