Laurie Canter Joins LIV Golf and Renounces PGA Tour Card
Laurie Canter has made a momentous decision in his career, rejecting the PGA Tour card to join LIV Golf, backed by Saudi Arabia. The news was announced on Monday, confirming his incorporation into the Majestiks for the 2026 season. Canter, who finished in seventh position in the Race to Dubai, was among the ten European Tour players who earned the opportunity to enter the PGA Tour. By opting for LIV Golf, his participation in the PGA Tour is suspended, and his card will be awarded to Daniel Brown. Joining Majesticks GC is an incredible opportunity to be part of a team that has helped shape LIV Golf from day one. The 36-year-old English golfer had already been a prominent figure in the launch of LIV in 2022. At that time, with limited status on the European circuit, he joined the Saudi league to secure his participation in tournaments. In the inaugural year, Canter competed in seven events, finishing in 28th place in the standings. In 2023, he acted as a substitute, replacing injured players, and participated in 11 LIV Golf tournaments. In early 2024, he played twice as a reserve until he was replaced by Anthony Kim. Subsequently, he returned to the European circuit and achieved a victory at the German Open in 2024. A new triumph in early 2025 in Bahrain propelled Canter to number 50 in the world ranking. This opened the doors for him to participate in The Players Championship, becoming the first former LIV player in the most important tournament on the circuit. He also qualified for the Masters. Canter joins Victor Perez in LIV Golf. The Majestiks, a team based in England, was founded by Lee Westwood, Ian Poulter, Henrik Stenson, and Sam Horsfield. Stenson, failing to place among the top 48 this year, was relegated, opening a space for Canter.Last year, Tom McKibbin earned a PGA Tour card through the European circuit and joined LIV in January. Because the season had already begun, his PGA Tour card was not given to the next in line. Brown will be able to accept it because Canter signed with LIV before the end of the year. The growth of the league has been remarkable and my experience in it has made me a more complete player and a multiple winner on the DP World Tour. Returning to the league with Majesticks GC is a great honor, and they bring a standard of excellence, ambition and identity that really resonates with me.
