EVIAN-LES-BAINS, France – Leona Maguire shone at the Evian Championship by achieving a hole-in-one, culminating the first round with an impressive score of 65 strokes, six under par. This performance placed her at the top of the leaderboard, sharing the lead with four other outstanding golfers.
Maguire, starting his journey in the second half of the field, achieved the feat on hole 2, a par 3. From a distance of 164 yards, his tee shot was impeccable, sealing the hole-in-one.
It was just taking a little less than an 8-iron for me. It looked good in the air. You’re never sure on that hole until the ball actually lands.
The Irish golfer shared the lead with Americans Andrea Lee and Jennifer Kupcho, as well as Australians Grace Kim and Gabriela Ruffels.
Minjee Lee, recent winner of the Women’s PGA Championship, placed solo in sixth position with a score of 66 strokes.
Nelly Korda, currently at the top of the ranking, was one stroke away, tied for seventh place. Korda is looking for her first victory of the season and her third Grand Slam title.
Jeeno Thitikul from Thailand, world number two, is in 16th position after recording 68 strokes.
Charley Hull was forced to withdraw from the first round due to a virus, suffering two fainting spells on the course.
