Keegan Bradley Reflects on the Ryder Cup: “A Brutal Event”

Keegan Bradley, after accepting the Ryder Cup captaincy, shares his feelings after the defeat of the American team. Bradley, who took over the leadership of the United States team, expressed the magnitude of the responsibility: “If you win, it’s glory for a lifetime. If you lose, it’s ‘I’ll have to live with this for the rest of my life'”.

There’s no part of me that thinks I’ll ever get over this.

The American team, despite being the favorite at home, found itself in an unfavorable situation from the start, with a considerable deficit towards the last day. Bradley admitted the difficulty of the situation: “You put so much into this, you have all this planning, and the first two days were as bad as we could have imagined.”
The defeat in the Ryder Cup has been a difficult period for Bradley. “Since the Ryder Cup until now it has been one of the most difficult moments of my life,” he commented.

Despite the experience, Bradley acknowledges the uniqueness of his position: “I experienced something in golf that I think no one has experienced: being the Ryder Cup captain and competing at a very high level, winning tournaments and competing in them. And it was really incredible”.

Although the American team managed to win some points in Sunday’s individual matches, the defeat left a deep mark on Bradley. He reflects on the difficulty of loving something that sometimes gives you nothing in return. Despite the doubts, Bradley is focused on becoming one of the best players on the PGA Tour again. Before the Ryder Cup, he won the 2024 BMW Championship, and his individual victories in that period surpassed those of any other American, except Scottie Scheffler. Bradley also shared moments when he wished to play instead of being captain, but acknowledged that he made the right decision. Although he missed the action on the field, he understood that taking on both responsibilities would have been too exhausting. Finally, Bradley felt the support of the American fans. “I didn’t expect the support. In the history of the game… I don’t know if any of them got to experience what I experienced this year,” he concluded.
