Dan Bradbury Crowned Joburg Open Champion with a Dramatic Finish

Johannesburg – Dan Bradbury, English golfer, showed his composure by executing a perfect chip at the crucial moment, saving par on the final hole. With a card of 65 strokes, five under par, Bradbury secured the victory at the Joburg Open. His impeccable performance on the 18th hole of the Houghton Golf Club prevented Casey Jarvis, from South Africa, from having the opportunity to join legends like Nick Faldo and Seve Ballesteros, as the only players in the history of the European circuit to win three consecutive tournaments. Brandon Robinson Thompson, who shared the lead and played a group ahead of Bradbury, suffered a three-putt on the 18th hole, resulting in a bogey and a card of 66 strokes. Bradbury had already won the Joburg Open in the fall of 2022, marking his first victory on the European circuit. The English golfer, who finished his college career at Florida State, also won the French Open in 2024.

I thought I had lost it in the first nine holes. I had many opportunities and didn’t take advantage of them. I feel very good about having achieved it. Somehow, I managed to finish it in the end.

Jarvis, after his victories at the Kenya Open and the South Africa Open, was one stroke away. He achieved an excellent approach on the 18th hole, leaving the ball only 7 feet from the hole. However, he missed his birdie putt, finishing with a card of 66. This left the stage set for Bradbury, whose approach went past the green. With a masterful chip, the ball rolled with precision towards the cup, stopping a few centimeters short to secure the par and the victory. Hennie Du Plessis, who dominated after a first round of 31 strokes, lost ground in the last nine holes, with bogeys and a double bogey on the 15th hole, falling out of contention. He finished with 70 strokes and placed fourth. The tournament was co-sanctioned with the Sunshine Tour.
