Thomas Bjorn Wins the Stifel Charity Classic
ST. LOUIS – Thomas Bjorn conquered the Stifel Charity Classic after an exciting playoff against Cameron Percy. Bjorn, with an impressive 35-foot birdie putt on the first playoff hole, secured his first individual victory on the PGA Tour Champions.
The Danish golfer finished the day with a score of 67 strokes, four under par, matching Percy’s score, who achieved birdies on three of the last four holes for a total of 64 strokes.
The tiebreaker was played on the 18th hole, a par 4. Bjorn holed a long putt, while Percy’s birdie attempt, from a slightly shorter distance, missed on the left edge of the hole.
This is the second victory of the year for Bjorn, 54, on the over-50s circuit. Previously, he had won the American Family Insurance Championship in June, paired with Darren Clarke.
Bjorn has 15 victories on the European Tour and was the captain of the winning European Ryder Cup team in 2018, in France.
For his part, Australian Cameron Percy was unable to secure his first victory on the senior circuit.
Alex Cejka, from Germany, finished one stroke off the playoff after a bogey on the 18th hole, with a round of 69 strokes.
