Thomas Bjorn Crowned at the Stifel Charity Classic
In an exciting finish, Thomas Bjorn claimed victory at the Stifel Charity Classic, achieving his first individual win on the PGA Tour Champions. The experienced Danish golfer surpassed Cameron Percy in a close playoff. Bjorn, with a card of 67 strokes (-4), tied Percy’s score, who starred in a remarkable comeback with birdies on three of the last four holes, signing a round of 64 strokes. Both players finished the tournament with a total of 201 strokes (-12) at the Norwood Hills Country Club. The tiebreaker was played on the 18th hole, a par 4. Bjorn, with a 35-foot putt, holed out for birdie, while Percy couldn’t make his opportunity, watching his attempt pass by the left edge of the hole. This is Bjorn’s second victory on the over-50s circuit so far this year. Previously, he had won the American Family Insurance Championship in June, teaming up with Darren Clarke. The 54-year-old golfer has an outstanding career, including 15 victories on the European Tour and his role as captain of the winning European Ryder Cup team in 2018.For his part, Australian Cameron Percy was close to achieving his first victory on the senior circuit.
Alex Cejka of Germany finished one stroke off the playoff after a bogey on the 18th hole, completing his round with 69 strokes.
