ORLANDO, Fla. – Akshay Bhatia staged an epic comeback at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, taking the victory after an exciting playoff against Daniel Berger. Bhatia, visibly motivated after missing a short putt at the start of the tournament, demonstrated the audacity that characterized the legendary Arnold Palmer.
Following Palmer’s spirit, Bhatia launched his attack with four consecutive birdies in the second half of the course, putting himself in the fight for the title. A spectacular 6-iron shot on the 16th hole, which almost went directly in, allowed him to get closer to victory with an eagle. The playoff, the first at Bay Hill since 1999, pitted Bhatia against Berger. The latter, who seemed to be in control of the tournament, missed a crucial putt on the 17th hole. In the playoff, Berger failed to keep his cool, while Bhatia, with two putts from a distance of almost 30 feet, secured the victory and the coveted $4 million prize.
