Major Golf Events Return to New York

Just one week before the start of the Ryder Cup in New York, the PGA of America has announced the schedule for three major championships to be held in the state through the year 2035. The KPMG Women’s PGA Championship will be played at the Black Course at Bethpage Black in 2028, while the PGA Championship will return to Bethpage Black in 2033, marking the second time this course has hosted the tournament. In addition, the PGA Championship will return to Oak Hill, near Rochester, in 2035, which will represent the fifth time this course has hosted the championship. The Ryder Cup will begin on September 26 at Bethpage Black, a public course on Long Island that has already hosted the U.S. Open in 2002 and 2009. Since 2015, the Women’s PGA Championship has been jointly organized by the PGA of America and the LPGA Tour, which has meant a significant improvement for this event, the second oldest major in women’s golf.

Bringing the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship to Bethpage Black is a significant milestone and reflects our commitment to hosting this event at premier courses in important markets.

Don Rea Jr., PGA of America President
The collaboration between the PGA of America and the LPGA has brought the Women’s PGA to eight courses that have previously hosted majors, including Baltusrol in New Jersey, Olympia Fields south of Chicago, Hazeltine in Minnesota, and Congressional.

Places matter. They elevate our athletes and amplify the moments that define our game.

Craig Kessler, LPGA Commissioner
Brooks Koepka was the winner of the last two PGA Championships held in New York, in 2019 at Bethpage Black and in 2023 at Oak Hill. The PGA Championship changed its date from August to May starting in 2019. New York will also host the U.S. Open next year at Shinnecock Hills. The Ryder Cup, which expects large crowds at Bethpage Black, was last held in New York at Oak Hill in 1995.
