Zhou Guanyu Signed by Cadillac F1 as Reserve Driver: Strategic Reinforcement

Chinese driver Zhou Guanyu joins the new Cadillac Formula 1 team as a reserve driver. Zhou will support Valtteri Bottas and Sergio Pérez, who are returning after a sabbatical to compete with the American team. In addition, he will be first on the list if any of the starting drivers are unable to participate in a race. Zhou, who was Ferrari’s reserve driver last year, after three seasons as Bottas’ teammate at the Alfa Romeo/Sauber team.

We wanted a candidate with recent F1 experience, willing to work hard as part of a team and who understands the challenges of developing a car throughout the season. Zhou fits perfectly. He will be a great asset to us when we start competing in 2026.

Cadillac also has American driver Colton Herta under contract with a development agreement. The former IndyCar race winner is making the unusual decision to compete in the F1 development series, Formula 2, this year as part of his effort to move up to the world championship in the future. Cadillac, General Motors, owners have already committed to competing with their own American-made engines by 2029. Meanwhile, Cadillac has an agreement to compete with Ferrari until its own engine project is ready.
