Toto Wolff Slams Red Bull Over “Brainless” Accusations
Mercedes boss Toto Wolff expressed his fury at Red Bull’s “brainless” statement about Kimi Antonelli. The controversy arose after the Qatar Grand Prix, where Lando Norris, who was seeking his first world championship, finished in fourth place after an error by Antonelli on the penultimate lap. This error allowed Norris to score two crucial points, securing his position in the championship. Max Verstappen won the race in Qatar, but Red Bull race engineer Gianpiero Lambiase hinted at foul play when commenting on the radio: “I’m not sure what happened with Antonelli there. It looked like he just pulled over and let Lando through.”
In response to Marko’s accusations, Wolff stated: “We are fighting for second place in the constructors’ championship, which is important for us. Kimi is fighting for a possible third place in the race. How can you be so stupid as to say something like that?”. Wolff revealed that he approached Lambiase after the race. The Austrian continued: “I told him: ‘He just went off. He had a little moment at the previous corner and then less entry speed into the left-hand corner. It can happen.’ With GP everything is clear. We cleared things up. He said he didn’t see the situation. But, why would we do this? Why would we even think about interfering in a drivers’ championship? You really need to examine yourself and see if you’re seeing ghosts.”This is complete and utter nonsense that leaves me flabbergasted.
