Verstappen Penalized After Crash at Spanish Grand Prix
The driver Max Verstappen suffered a penalty that relegated him to tenth place in the Spanish Grand Prix, after an incident with George Russell.
The crash, which occurred in the final laps of the race, involved the current Formula 1 champion, who apparently deliberately hit Russell’s Mercedes.
Verstappen, who was in third position after a Safety Car period, was overtaken by Charles Leclerc and was close to being overtaken by Russell at turn 1.
The Dutch driver, visibly annoyed by the maneuver of Leclerc and Russell, received instructions from his Red Bull team to concede fourth position to Russell. Verstappen appeared to lift his foot off the accelerator to allow the British driver to overtake, but then collided with the side of his car.
Russell managed to overtake Verstappen a few corners later.
The race stewards quickly penalized Verstappen with a 10-second penalty, which dropped him from fifth to tenth place, his worst result since the 2024 Australian Grand Prix.
Upon reviewing the images in the cool down room, the first three pilots expressed their disbelief.
Oh my god.

Yikes.

I’ve done that before … in Mario Kart.
