Verstappen reveals the truth about his future in Formula 1

The current Formula 1 world champion, Max Verstappen, has shared his perspective on the rumors that circulated about his possible departure from Red Bull. The Dutch driver has assured that his contractual situation was always simpler than what was publicly speculated. Before the Formula 1 summer break, Verstappen confirmed his stay at Red Bull until 2028, clearing up doubts about a possible move to Mercedes, where Toto Wolff had publicly expressed his interest. Much of the speculation about Verstappen’s departure was based on a clause in his contract that ultimately was not activated, due to his position in the championship.

For me, it was very, very simple anyway. I just say what I want to say. And I was never stressed about it at all because… of course, naturally you always want to win. But at the same time, you just work on the performance.

Verstappen explained that he never had any doubts about where he would be racing in 2026. The driver added that he prefers to focus on performance and not give importance to the stories or questions that arise.

Verstappen also commented on his relaxed style in these situations, assuring that he does not stress or worry excessively. He prefers to live in the moment and see what happens, with no problem in conversing or listening, as everything was under control. Mercedes boss Toto Wolff had shown serious interest in signing Verstappen, which even led to putting on hold the conversations about George Russell’s contract extension. During the summer break, social media lit up with photos of Wolff and Verstappen together on a yacht. Both also met in Sardinia, amid rumors about Verstappen’s possible departure from Red Bull. Verstappen downplayed the importance of these meetings, noting that he even had lunch with Wolff and his family. He stated that it is normal to have a good relationship with other people, beyond the competition in Formula 1. Mercedes is expected to continue with its current driver lineup, George Russell and Kimi Antonelli, for the 2026 season.
