Max Verstappen does not rule out the possibility of obtaining his fifth Formula 1 world title, closing in on Oscar Piastri in the drivers’ standings after his dominant victory at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix.
Two weeks after his victory in Monza and with seven races remaining, Verstappen is 69 points behind Piastri. The latter, in a weekend marked by errors, suffered an accident in qualifying and another on the first lap of Sunday’s race.
On Saturday, amidst the chaos in Baku, with a classification suspended on six occasions, Verstappen secured pole position, while Norris placed in seventh position. On Sunday, with Piastri out of the race on the first lap, Norris couldn’t take advantage of the opportunity to score points, finishing in the same position in which he started and seeing how the advantage over Verstappen was reduced to 44 points.
The impeccable weekend of the Dutch driver earned him his sixth Grand Slam (pole, fastest lap, victory, leading all laps) in his career, tying Lewis Hamilton for second place in F1 history.Verstappen added that this season has been variable, but that at least in the last two consecutive races, things have gone very well. This weekend has been incredible for us.

Verstappen stated that he prefers to focus on each race, trying to get as many points as possible, and that at the end of the season, in Abu Dhabi, the result will be seen. McLaren team boss Andrea Stella highlighted Verstappen’s consecutive victories. Stella commented that Red Bull seems to have improved, especially with the updates implemented in Monza, and that Verstappen is a strong contender for the drivers’ championship. There are seven races left and there’s still a 69-point difference. It’s a lot. But basically everything has to be perfect on my part. And I also need a bit of luck on their side [McLaren], so it’s still very difficult.
