Vasseur Understands Hamilton’s Frustration After the Hungarian GP

Ferrari boss Fred Vasseur has expressed his full understanding of Lewis Hamilton’s frustration after the Hungarian Grand Prix weekend. The seven-time world champion underperformed, which generated various comments. After qualifying in 12th position on Saturday, Hamilton stated he felt “useless” and suggested that Ferrari “probably needs to change drivers.” His teammate, Charles Leclerc, achieved the pole position. After finishing the race on Sunday also in 12th position, Hamilton reiterated that he felt “the same” as the day before. Faced with the question of whether he had a plan to motivate Hamilton during the summer break and improve his performance, Vasseur replied that such a conversation would not be necessary.

Vasseur explained that Hamilton is frustrated, but not demotivated. “I can perfectly understand the situation. Sometimes comments are made about what the driver says in the car, but if you put the microphone to other athletes in football, I’m not sure it’s much better,” he commented.

They are in the performance and sometimes make comments, even when they get out of the car. I understand the frustration, but we are all frustrated. Sometimes, if you ask me, I can’t say this, I would go to the stewards!

Vasseur insists that the difference between Leclerc and Hamilton was not as big as it seemed in qualifying, with Hamilton only 0.015 seconds away from advancing to the next round. Ferrari’s boss believes Hamilton’s frustration stems from his high expectations to compete at the top. Vasseur added that Hamilton is demanding, which he considers one of the reasons for his success. Vasseur concluded that the situation is difficult for Hamilton, but understandable given the competitiveness of Formula 1.
