Formula 1 driver Yuki Tsunoda was involved in an impressive accident during qualifying for the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix. The incident occurred when his Red Bull hit the barriers at the Villeneuve chicane.

Tsunoda, on his first flying lap of the qualifying session, overshot the corner and lost control of the car at a speed close to 120 mph. This caused a spin in the gravel and a heavy impact against the barriers, which lifted the Red Bull into the air before it finally landed on its wheels in the gravel.

Despite the magnitude of the accident, Tsunoda emerged unscathed from the incident, although he underwent a mandatory medical check due to the force of the impact.

Oh my God! I just saw the video. Is he okay?

Liam Lawson, Tsunoda’s former teammate at Racing Bulls, via team radio.

The qualifying session was stopped to allow for the repair of the barriers and a light panel used to display the signaling flags to the drivers.

Because he failed to set a time in qualifying, Tsunoda will start from the back of the grid in Sunday’s Grand Prix.

Tsunoda was promoted to Red Bull this year, at the Japanese Grand Prix, replacing Liam Lawson, who was sidelined after only two races with the team.

The Japanese driver has scored nine points in four races since becoming Max Verstappen’s teammate.
