George Russell, after signing a new multi-year contract, expressed his conviction that most Formula 1 drivers would like to be in his position at Mercedes for the next season.
The 27-year-old driver secured his place in the team after negotiations and rumors about the possible arrival of Max Verstappen.
Mercedes confirmed its driver lineup until the end of the 2026 season, with Kimi Antonelli also secured for that period.
This could open the door for Verstappen to be considered again for 2027, especially considering that many believe Mercedes will have the most powerful engine with the new regulations.
Russell also added:I think if all the seats were available right now and I could choose any to race in the 2026 season, I would choose Mercedes. I think several drivers would too.

The British driver was enthusiastic about the future and satisfied with his decision. Russell has been one of the most outstanding drivers this season, and his new contract comes after his victory in Singapore. Currently, he is 36 points behind Verstappen in the drivers’ standings. Russell reiterated his desire to compete against Verstappen if the opportunity arose.No one can foresee what will happen in the future, and I am sure there will be great uncertainties and surprises, good and bad, next year.
