Former Red Bull team principal Christian Horner shared a video on social media where he is seen riding a horse in the English countryside on the day of the Belgian Grand Prix. The publication had the description: “Different power this Sunday”. Spa-Francorchamps marked the beginning of a new era for the former Formula 1 champions, the first race without Horner at the helm since Red Bull entered the sport in 2005. The new boss, Laurent Mekies, started with a victory, with Max Verstappen taking the sprint on Saturday, followed by a frustrating fourth place for the Dutch world champion in the main Grand Prix on Sunday. Japanese driver Yuki Tsunoda failed to score points for the sixth consecutive race.

In addition to expressing surprise at the long delay in the start of the race, due to the heavy rain, Mekies avoided any controversy. Mekies blamed the team for Tsunoda’s result, stating that the Japanese driver had done a great job in qualifying, but was called in too late for his pit stop, a mistake that cost him three or four positions.

After two weeks at the factory, trying to get to know as many people as possible, it was also nice to meet the race team. Also to get into the dynamics of the race and see what the flows, processes and preparation are like. That was very good in terms of getting to know the team. As you can imagine, it’s a team where everything is done at a higher level.

The absence of Horner was the topic of conversation in the paddock, but by the time the circus regroups in Budapest next week, the conversation is likely to have changed.

I think Laurent is very good. The sport moves quickly, so it probably won’t be something we’re talking about on Monday.

Zak Brown, McLaren bossMercedes boss Toto Wolff said earlier in the week that he would miss his former sparring partner and star of Netflix’s “Drive to Survive”, and hoped he would return sooner or later.

I don’t think he’s gone forever. I think he’ll appear in some other function.
