Piastri Seeks Recovery After Qualifying Crash at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix

The championship leader, Oscar Piastri, anticipates an opportunity to achieve a good result after an unfortunate accident that left him out of qualifying for the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. Piastri suffered a slide that led him to hit the wall at Turn 4 during the exciting Q3 session. This was an uncommon error by the driver, who is currently leading his teammate, Lando Norris, by 31 points in the championship. Despite the adverse conditions, with strong winds and rain at the time of the incident, Piastri avoided making excuses.

I think I was much happier today, but in the end I think I pushed too hard in turn 3. I haven’t analyzed what I did differently, because I didn’t feel like I did much differently, but a small detail can make a big difference. So yes, obviously disappointed with my performance.

Oscar Piastri comenzará noveno en la parrilla el domingo, su peor posición de salida desde el Gran Premio de México de 2024, donde partió desde el puesto 17.
Piastri commented that he is not one to blame external factors, unless there is evidence to suggest it. One of the few consolations for Piastri is that Norris couldn’t take advantage of the situation, as his car grazed the TecPro barrier at Turn 15, managing a lap that only secured him seventh place. This implies that the McLaren drivers will have to move forward from the back on a circuit known for its high demands. Piastri also mentioned that there could be opportunities on Sunday, although he regretted the situation. Furthermore, he pointed out that the strategies could be varied due to the lack of long race simulations during the weekend. Max Verstappen of Red Bull appears to be the main favorite for the victory, after securing pole position in a mixed grid that includes Carlos Sainz of Williams in second place and Liam Lawson of Racing Bulls in third.
