Piastri Steals Pole from Norris in a Dramatic Spanish Grand Prix Qualifying

Championship leader Oscar Piastri secured pole position at the Spanish Grand Prix, surpassing his teammate Lando Norris in a thrilling qualifying session.

Piastri, with an impressive lap of 1:11.546, secured the first position with a 0.2-second advantage over Norris, who remained in second position with the other McLaren.

Norris had led Q3 by 0.017 seconds after the first runs, but failed to improve his time on the final lap.

This pole position represents a significant boost for Piastri, especially after Norris reduced the gap in the championship fight to just three points following his victory at the Monaco Grand Prix last week.

“Good job, very well done,” Piastri commented over the team radio. “A significant change compared to last year, so well done to everyone. Let’s enjoy tomorrow.”

After days of speculation about whether McLaren’s advantage would be affected by a technical directive related to the front wings, the papaya cars demonstrated their dominance, as they have done throughout the season.

Max Verstappen and George Russell, the next two drivers in the championship standings, took the second row of the grid with an identical time of 1:11.848, 0.302 seconds behind Piastri’s benchmark time.
