Oscar Piastri Keeps Calm in the F1 Championship Fight

The Formula 1 championship leader, Oscar Piastri, has made it clear that he will not alter his race strategy despite his comfortable lead. The Australian driver emphasized that it is too early to settle for positions other than first place. Piastri’s recent victory at the Dutch Grand Prix, combined with the retirement of his teammate and rival, Lando Norris, has positioned him with a 34-point lead, with nine races remaining until the end of the season.

Only two drivers have had a similar advantage under the current points system and have failed to win the title. When asked if this would influence his race approach, Piastri responded with a smile.

“Honestly, very little,” Piastri stated before the Italian Grand Prix. “I had my own championships… I’ve had a much bigger gap than this and seen it practically wiped out before the final round. So I have personal experience that this is not a comfortable advantage.”

The Australian added that his approach will remain the same until the points difference is significantly greater or the number of remaining races is considerably smaller. Piastri believes it would be unnatural for him to race differently than he has done during the season.
Oscar Piastri is 34 points clear at the top of the drivers' championship heading into the weekend at Monza.
Piastri explained that his attitude towards risk remains measured, regardless of the championship situation. After the retirement in Zandvoort, Norris commented that he could now race without anything to lose to try to catch up with his teammate.

When asked if he expected a more aggressive Norris, Piastri replied that he doesn’t think much will change. Piastri believes that both drivers will continue to compete in the same way, trying to drive as fast as possible.
