Piastri and Norris: Clearing the Air for the Mexican Grand Prix
Australian driver Oscar Piastri has confirmed that both he and his McLaren teammate, Lando Norris, will start the Mexican Grand Prix with a “clean slate.” This statement comes after Piastri took responsibility for the incident in the sprint race of the United States Grand Prix. Following a review of the crash in Austin, the “consequences” imposed on Norris after the incident at the Singapore Grand Prix have been lifted. In a season marked by tension in the fight for the title, Piastri leads Norris by 14 points, while Max Verstappen, of Red Bull, is 40 points behind Piastri, seeking to get closer to both. The incident in Austin, where both teammates were forced to retire, occurred when Piastri attempted to overtake Norris at Turn 1, colliding with Nico Hülkenberg’s Sauber and subsequently with Norris’s car.
When asked if the “consequences” for Norris had been eliminated, Piastri answered affirmatively. Piastri’s aggressive move on Norris was the determining factor in the decision to take responsibility. Norris also confirmed the conversations and expressed his desire to compete on equal terms with Piastri in the remaining races. We have reviewed what happened, something we usually do every weekend, regardless of what has happened. I think there was a degree of responsibility on my part in the sprint race.
Oscar Piastri
They were pretty straightforward conversations. From now on, we look towards the rest of the season. It’s like it was before, with an eye on the future and focusing on myself.
