McLaren boss Andrea Stella has praised the performance of his drivers Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris, stating that they are competing like true champions. Stella predicts that the Formula 1 title will be decided by minimal details and moments of individual brilliance.
The internal rivalry at McLaren focuses on Piastri and Norris, who are only 16 points apart in the standings. Piastri leads the season, while Norris is in second place, solidifying the team’s outstanding performance. In the Belgian Grand Prix, Piastri achieved the sixth victory of the season, securing the sixth double for McLaren.
Max Verstappen, from Red Bull, is in third place, but with a difference of 81 points, which diminishes his chances of obtaining a fifth consecutive title.
With 11 races remaining, the internal competition at McLaren is the main focus. The team is heading to retain the constructors’ title with a significant lead of 268 points over Ferrari, which is in second place.
Norris won at Silverstone, but Piastri was penalized. However, Piastri triumphed at Spa, demonstrating his skill by overtaking from second position on the grid.
In Spa, the race began with a rolling start in wet conditions. Norris, despite obtaining pole position, couldn’t maintain the lead. Piastri experienced a similar situation in Saturday’s sprint race, where Verstappen won after taking the lead on the first lap. Stella analyzed the situation in Silverstone, where a penalty affected Piastri during the restart after the safety car. Furthermore, he mentioned that in Spa, due to the characteristics of the circuit, it would have been difficult for Norris to maintain his position. Stella ruled out a battery problem, indicating that a slight anomaly occurred in both cars, and that Norris should not have been penalized. Piastri, after qualifying second, was satisfied, acknowledging that Spa could be the best place not to have the fastest lap and was already planning his strategy. Piastri revealed that his strategy to win the race was the move through Eau Rouge. There is very, very little difference between our two drivers, and this is because they are both competing at a very, very high level.
