Cadillac Reveals its Formula 1 Lineup with Experienced Drivers
The new Formula 1 team, Cadillac, is preparing for its debut on the grid in 2026 with a duo of experienced drivers: Sergio Pérez and Valtteri Bottas, according to sources close to Alofoke Deportes.
Cadillac, which will become the eleventh F1 team in 2026, has opted for the most experienced free agents available on the market. Pérez and Bottas, together, have 16 race wins.
An official announcement of the lineup is expected before the Dutch Grand Prix this Sunday.
The team, led by former Manor team principal Graeme Lowden, identified both drivers as primary targets from the outset.
It is understood that Alpine made a late offer to both drivers as possible replacements, but it was rejected on both occasions.
Pérez hasn’t had a seat this year after being dropped by Red Bull at the end of 2024, following a drop in his performance.Bottas was replaced at Sauber after two years and this year he has returned to Mercedes in a reserve driver role.
Both drivers will bring the experience of having been part of the two most recent dominant F1 teams.
Cadillac spoke with several drivers, including Mick Schumacher, but sources indicate that neither was considered as seriously as Pérez or Bottas.
General Motors secured entry into F1 as the eleventh team last year and chose to join as the Cadillac brand.
Although it will be based primarily at a UK factory near the Silverstone circuit, parts of the operation will also run from locations in Fishers, Indiana and Warren, Michigan.
GM has also committed to building its own engine for the F1 team by the end of the decade, but in the meantime, it will compete with Ferrari’s power.
American racing legend and 1978 F1 champion Mario Andretti is on the board of directors.
The team’s formation and its path to the first race of 2026, the Australian Grand Prix, will be the subject of a multi-part documentary series presented by actor Keanu Reeves.
