Lando Norris Wins the Austrian Grand Prix

Lando Norris secured a crucial victory at the Austrian Grand Prix after overtaking his teammate and title rival, Oscar Piastri, in an exciting on-track duel. Norris held off Piastri in an exciting 20-lap duel in the initial part of the race, and then withstood late pressure to secure his third victory of the season. This victory comes two weeks after his collision with Piastri in the Canadian Grand Prix and reduces the Australian’s points lead in the championship from 22 to 15. The already slim title hopes of the current champion, Max Verstappen, suffered a potentially decisive blow when he was taken off the track by Kimi Antonelli on the first lap, although McLaren proved to be superior throughout the weekend.

Norris and Piastri quickly left the Ferrari drivers behind at the start and ran one behind the other in the first part of the race. Piastri briefly managed to get ahead, launching himself on the inside at turn 3, but Norris regained the inside line and overtook him at the next turn. The championship leader, Piastri, almost collided with the rear of Norris on lap 20 while fighting for position, before the pit stops gave the Englishman the space needed to bring the car home.

The race seemed to consolidate 2025 as a two-horse race, with Verstappen failing to finish and Montreal winner George Russell finishing in a distant fifth place.
