Lando Norris: Red Bull’s Resurgence Isn’t Surprising

Lando Norris, McLaren driver, has expressed that Red Bull’s recent resurgence in the last two races should not surprise anyone. The Brit anticipates that Max Verstappen will become a strong contender in the fight for the championship. After Verstappen’s consecutive victories in Azerbaijan and Italy, the defending champion closed in on the top of the championship, placing 44 points behind Norris. Norris pointed out that Verstappen’s recent victories are consistent with Red Bull’s performance at the start of the season.

It’s not often they’re slow, so I think people should stop being surprised that they’re quick.

Norris added that Red Bull has been fast all season, and that the updates they introduced in Monza seem to have helped them improve even more. “It’s not a surprise, we know they are an incredibly strong team and one of the best drivers in Formula 1, so we don’t expect less,” he stated. The McLaren driver has been involved in a title battle with his teammate, Oscar Piastri, during the 2025 season and is 25 points behind the Australian in the standings. Norris acknowledged that McLaren struggled in the last two races in Baku and Monza, circuits that seemed to favor Red Bull’s strengths. The British driver also commented on the areas where Red Bull proved to be superior and the need to understand why. Norris’ weekend at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix was affected by the chaotic qualifying session on Saturday. Norris explained that, given the circumstances, his position in the race could have been better if he had qualified higher. He concluded that McLaren still has areas to improve to consistently compete with Red Bull.
