Crash at the United States Grand Prix: Piastri and Norris Out of the Race
Austin, Texas – The United States Grand Prix witnessed an unexpected collision between McLaren drivers, Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris, on the first lap of Saturday’s sprint race. This incident opened a valuable opportunity for Max Verstappen, who was looking to close in on the championship leaders. The incident occurred when Piastri, while trying to overtake Norris, was hit by Nico Hülkenberg’s Sauber. This contact triggered a chain reaction, catapulting Piastri’s car into Norris’s. Norris was forced to abandon the race immediately, while Piastri also had to retire, apparently due to suspension damage.Piastri, for his part, commented that he had not been able to see the incident from the television cameras. “I had a good start, we were both very deep into turn 1, I tried to cut and they hit me. It’s not the best way to start the day, but I need to review it,” he added. Before the race, Piastri was leading Norris by 22 points, with Verstappen 63 points behind the Australian. Verstappen took advantage of the situation and won the sprint race, adding eight valuable points. This reduces the gap to 55 points with respect to the McLaren leader ahead of the United States Grand Prix. McLaren has insisted that Verstappen remains an unpredictable competitor in the fight for the championship.I had no idea what happened, what else was I going to do? I need to analyze it more. I was just hit, taken out, so I couldn’t do much.
