Zak Brown: Norris and Piastri clash is a matter of time

McLaren CEO Zak Brown believes another crash between Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri is inevitable, although he is confident that his team is prepared to handle the situation. Piastri leads Norris by 15 points in the drivers’ standings before the mid-season point at this weekend’s British Grand Prix. The drivers collided while fighting for fourth place at the Canadian Grand Prix, following a bad decision by Norris, for which the British driver took the blame. In last weekend’s Austrian Grand Prix, they competed for the lead and avoided contact, although Piastri was told that one of his overtaking attempts was “too risky”, as he locked a front tire and narrowly avoided the rear of Norris.

Brown commented that it is inevitable that teammates will clash on the track, and that it is something that must be assumed in racing. He highlighted the importance of integrity, communication, and respect among the drivers.

“I don’t think you’ll find two racing drivers, teammates or not, who are going to compete as closely as they will,” Brown stated.

Brown believes that the personalities of both drivers will be a key factor in keeping the competition harmonious, even if the cars collide on the track. Brown added that both Norris and Piastri are first-class individuals, who respect each other and respect the team. Both want to compete fairly and for the best to win. Brown is excited about this dynamic.

Much has been said about the different off-track approaches of the McLaren drivers, with Norris openly discussing his difficulties, while Piastri has preferred to speak on the track. Brown believes that the different characters of the drivers help the team manage the situation.

Brown highlighted that having different personalities among the drivers is beneficial for the team, as this makes the dynamic between them good.
