Mekies Remains Humble in the Face of Red Bull’s Resurgence, Verstappen Backs His Impact

In the world of Formula 1, the figure of Laurent Mekies, Red Bull’s head, has been key in the team’s recent improvement. However, Mekies remains firm in his position of not taking credit for this change, an attitude that, according to Max Verstappen, is somewhat modest. Since Mekies took over the leadership in July, Red Bull’s performance has undergone a remarkable transformation. Verstappen has achieved podiums and victories, demonstrating the team’s ability to compete at the highest level. Following Verstappen’s victory in Monza in September, Mekies downplayed his influence. Three races later, his opinion hasn’t changed.

“It’s still zero, guys. It’s still zero,” Mekies declared to reporters on Sunday night, when asked if he would reconsider the credit he can take. “And I say it with the same seriousness as I told you after Monza.”

Progress in performance is largely due to the collective effort to analyze the car’s limitations and optimize its potential. Teamwork, with Verstappen’s valuable contributions, is paying off. Verstappen has praised Mekies for his work since he was promoted from his previous position as head of Red Bull’s junior team, Racing Bulls. Mekies, with experience in engineering, has brought a more sensible approach to the car’s setup, according to Verstappen. “I think Laurent is probably too nice in that sense,” Verstappen commented. The pilot highlighted teamwork and the analysis of details to identify weaknesses. This approach has improved the team’s performance in recent races. By asking the right questions, including Laurent’s participation, it’s simply working well.
