McLaren nears F1 constructors’ championship in record time
The 2025 Formula 1 season looks set to be one of the most dominant in McLaren’s history. The team is on the verge of securing the Constructors’ Championship much earlier than what was seen in the dramatic final of last season in Abu Dhabi. After securing their first team title in 26 years in 2024, McLaren is on track to retain the crown in record time, with several races still to go. Although he missed an opportunity in Azerbaijan, McLaren has a great chance to secure the championship at the Singapore Grand Prix on October 5, the 18th race of the season. After the race in Marina Bay, 303 points will be at stake from six remaining rounds. McLaren has a 333-point lead over Mercedes, who overtook Ferrari in the fight for second place in Baku. Since McLaren already has enough wins to nullify a tiebreaker, a 303-point lead over second place would give the team the title. The most Mercedes could get from the next Grand Prix with a one-two finish is 43 points, so McLaren needs only 13 points to come out victorious. That means a single podium finish by Oscar Piastri or Lando Norris would be enough.Ferrari is also mathematically in the fight, so McLaren will be crowned champion in Singapore if:
- Not surpassed by Mercedes by 31 points or more
- And not surpassed by Ferrari by 35 points or more
