Leclerc Surprises Everyone with an Unexpected Pole Position in Hungary

In a day full of surprises at the Hungarian Grand Prix, Charles Leclerc, Ferrari driver, left everyone speechless by securing the pole position, surpassing the two McLaren drivers. The result generated a great impact in the Formula 1 world. Leclerc, demonstrating exceptional performance, set the fastest time in Q3, beating the championship leader, Oscar Piastri, by just 0.026 seconds. This is the first pole position of the season for the Ferrari driver and the 27th of his career. The classification was unexpected, especially after Piastri led the time sheets in Q1 and Q2. Changes in weather conditions, with cloudy skies and increased wind before Q3, could have influenced the result.

Today is a day when I no longer understand anything about this sport. Qualifying felt horrible, from the first lap to the penultimate one. Everything seemed out of place.

Charles Leclerc
Leclerc admitted that the qualifying session was complicated, feeling that they had regressed in terms of competitiveness. Despite the difficulties, he managed a clean lap in Q3, which secured him pole position. This result is Ferrari’s best in a qualifying session this year and comes after the introduction of an upgrade to the rear suspension at the Belgian Grand Prix.

It’s a great boost. The team has been pushing to bring improvements. Being in pole position today is incredible and means we are doing something right.

Leclerc’s Ferrari teammate, Lewis Hamilton, who holds the record for eight wins and nine poles at the Hungaroring, finished in 12th place after being eliminated in Q2. For his part, the team boss, Fred Vasseur, was cautious about the surprising result, highlighting the difficulty of the session and admitting that Leclerc was close to being eliminated in Q2. Vasseur emphasized the importance of analyzing the performance in Q2, where Leclerc was close to not advancing to the next round. Attention is now focused on the race strategy and how Ferrari can capitalize on this unexpected pole position.
