Leclerc Expresses Frustration After Singapore Grand Prix

Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc expressed his disappointment after the Singapore Grand Prix, describing the team’s current situation as “not a pleasant feeling.” Leclerc spoke about the need to readjust expectations given the car’s performance, as he watched his rivals battle for victories. Ferrari has yet to achieve a victory in the 2026 season, while McLaren, Red Bull, and Mercedes have each secured at least two victories, with triumphs since the summer break. George Russell of Mercedes secured the second victory of the year for his team at the Singapore Grand Prix, while Leclerc and his teammate, Lewis Hamilton, struggled to reach sixth and eighth positions respectively, facing brake issues.

From lap eight, basically, it was all about managing the brakes. It made our race very, very complicated.

A video of Leclerc having to lift off the throttle and slide while being overtaken by the Mercedes driver, Kimi Antonelli, has gone viral after the race.
Leclerc offered a candid assessment of Ferrari’s position in the competition.

Unfortunately, we don’t have the race car to fight with those in front. McLaren always had the same distance with us compared to the beginning of the year. Red Bull took a step forward since Monza and the same level of McLaren.

Leclerc added that Mercedes is now at the same level as McLaren and Red Bull, and that Ferrari is in a difficult situation, feeling like “passengers” in the car, without being able to extract much more than what there is to save from the season. Compared to the previous year, when Ferrari competed with McLaren until the last race, the current situation contrasts notably. Leclerc tried to show optimism in the face of the situation, although he acknowledged the difficulty of the season.

Every time you don’t fight for victories, it’s difficult, but obviously, coming from a year like the previous one, where you are fighting for the World Championship, the World Constructors’ Championship, and then you come here with high expectations. You have to lower your expectations from the start, and you don’t even see a progression throughout the year… It’s not easy.

Charles Leclerc
When asked about how he manages the disappointment of a season like 2026, Leclerc replied that although it requires a lot of energy, this motivates him even more to try to change the situation. He concluded that it is very hard, especially after a race like the one in Singapore, where you don’t even fight for a podium, and you have to manage many problems, “it’s not a pleasant feeling”.
