Leclerc Questions Himself After Disappointing Silverstone Qualifying
SILVERSTONE, England – Charles Leclerc, visibly frustrated, blamed himself for obtaining sixth place in the qualifying of the British Grand Prix. “I need to improve,” stated the Ferrari driver.
Ferrari seemed to be a strong contender for pole position, but their performance declined in Q3, allowing Max Verstappen to secure the first position on the grid, followed by the McLaren drivers.
Leclerc will start from the third row, with his teammate, Lewis Hamilton, just ahead in fourth position.
Damn, I’m so bad. I’m so bad. That’s all I am.

When asked where the session escaped him, he replied: “More than escaping, I’m not doing the work.”
“I think from the start of the season, I’ve been performing very well in the races. And looking back at the races, there aren’t really many races where I would go back to change something I’ve done inside the car.”
“Unfortunately, when I look back at the classification, which used to be my strong point, there are many classifications in which I would like to go back and change something, because every time I get to Q3, for some reason, it doesn’t work.”
“Right now, we’ve had good rankings, but not great rankings. And again, this used to be my strong point, so I’m not happy with the level I’m showing in the rankings.”
“We have problems, for sure, particularly today, from Q2 onwards, we have been struggling with something inside the car. But it’s not an excuse. I need to improve.”
When asked if he could change things in the race, he said: “I hope so. But starting P6 again, it makes it very difficult, because every time we start the race struggling to come back, and once we are back at the front, the people who have had a clean race simply have an advantage over us, so we need to improve in qualifying.”
Although he largely blamed himself, Leclerc gave a cryptic response about the handling of the car.
“The problems are very specific with what we have. It’s not a balance issue, it’s not a grip issue. I don’t want to go into details, but it’s something very strange that we have to fight with the car, and especially when they are high-speed corners, it makes it even more difficult. But I hope we can solve it. The good thing, if we can say that it’s something good, is that tomorrow, we won’t have any of this, we certainly won’t have any problem of that kind.”
When asked if the problems have been evident all year or have arisen recently, Leclerc simply said: “I expected too much. I can’t go into that.”
The native of Monaco left, concluding his session with the press.
