Jak Crawford to Debut in Formula 1 in Mexico
The young American motorsport prospect, Jak Crawford, will have his first official experience in Formula 1 at the wheel of an Aston Martin in the Mexico City Grand Prix next week. Crawford, 20 years old, will take Lance Stroll’s place in the initial practice session of the weekend. The F1 regulations require teams to give a young driver a chance on two occasions per car throughout the season. Formerly a member of the Red Bull junior academy, Crawford joined Aston Martin’s young talent program in 2024, and has since conducted several tests with the team. His participation in Mexico will mark his first appearance in an official Formula 1 session.Crawford aspires to become the next American driver in F1. Recently, he did not get an opportunity with the new F1 team, Cadillac, which will join the grid as the eleventh team next season. The team opted for the experience of Valtteri Bottas and Sergio Pérez for their race lineup, but Crawford was not considered for any role in the team. IndyCar driver Colton Herta has been signed as a Cadillac test driver.I’m excited to drive the AMR25 next week in Mexico for my first official Formula 1 session. I’ve worked closely with the team throughout the year, so taking the next step and having track time on a Grand Prix weekend is really exciting. Announcing this in Texas, where I’m from, makes it even more special.
