Lewis Hamilton Withdraws from Pirelli Test for His Dog’s Health

Ferrari driver Lewis Hamilton has withdrawn from Friday’s Pirelli tire test due to his dog Roscoe’s illness. The seven-time world champion was scheduled to participate in the test at Mugello, but withdrew to be with his pet. Hamilton shared an update on the condition of the 12-year-old bulldog via Instagram on Friday morning, along with images from a veterinary clinic.

Hamilton explained that Roscoe contracted pneumonia again and was having difficulty breathing. He was admitted to the hospital and sedated to calm him while he underwent tests, and during the process his heart stopped. The doctors managed to resuscitate him, but he is now in a coma. Hamilton doesn’t know if he will wake up. “Tomorrow we will try to wake him up. I am by his side and I want to thank everyone for their prayers and support,” Hamilton stated.

Reserve driver Zhou Guanyu took on Hamilton’s responsibilities at the Mugello test alongside Ferrari’s regular driver, Charles Leclerc. The test, which is being carried out in a modified version of this year’s Ferrari, was scheduled to help Pirelli finalize decisions on the hardest compounds in its tire range for next year.
