Lewis Hamilton: F1 Film Success and Future Considerations

Seven-time Formula 1 champion Lewis Hamilton expressed his desire to fully enjoy the success of the F1 movie, warning against rushing a sequel. Hamilton, who served as an executive producer on the film starring Brad Pitt, emphasized the importance of taking the necessary time for the development of a possible sequel. The film, which became Apple’s biggest box office success, grossed $55.6 million in its North American theatrical release and $144 million worldwide over the weekend.

Literally, we just finished it, so I think the last thing we want right now is a sequel. It’s been four years of work. It was a lot of work, especially for [director Joseph Kosinski]. It’s time away from your family, it’s time away from your children, and you also need this to simmer for a while, you know. Let’s enjoy it.

Hamilton emphasized that rushing into a sequel could be detrimental, citing the tendency for second parts to be inferior to the original. He proposed that, if a sequel were to be made, the necessary time should be taken to improve it significantly. The Ferrari driver also mentioned that he applied race track analysis procedures to the film business, requesting a “report” on the project, similar to how a team analyzes a race before the next one.

Let’s review what we did, what we could have done better. I don’t know if that’s done in the film industry, but it’s something I’ve learned here.
