Lewis Hamilton Celebrates Double Triumph: Podium in China and Oscar for the Film “F1”

Lewis Hamilton’s weekend was crowned with an Oscar, as the film “F1”, of which he is a co-producer and in which he had a cameo, won the Best Sound award at Sunday’s ceremony. The film, which was nominated in four categories, including Best Picture and Visual Effects, finally took home the Best Sound award, with Hamilton being mentioned in the acceptance speech. Hamilton was unable to attend the ceremony due to the Chinese Grand Prix, where he secured his first podium for Ferrari in his 26th attempt. He finished behind the race winner, Kimi Antonelli, and his Mercedes teammate, George Russell.

I explored all possible ways to attend the Oscars, but I finally had to miss them.

The Chinese Grand Prix took place in Shanghai, a 12.5-hour flight from Los Angeles. Even with the 15-hour time difference, it would have been impossible for Hamilton to arrive on time.

Hamilton mentioned that he would communicate via FaceTime with director Joseph Kosinski and lead producer Jerry Bruckheimer. “I am incredibly proud, I never thought it would be the result of the work we have been doing in recent years,” he added. “It’s incredible to see it. Seeing the promotion around the world, the enthusiasm, and seeing new people getting excited about the sport, the way many of us grew up. It’s really great to see that expanding. And on top of that, I’m still here, I’m still part of it and I’m witnessing it.”

The Academy Award is not the first recognition for “F1”. It also won a Grammy last month for “Bad As I Used To Be” by Chris Stapleton, as well as a BAFTA award for Best Sound. Hamilton, who is fourth in the championship before the Japanese Grand Prix on March 29, also advised on the film’s script and attended a day of driving with its main star, Brad Pitt.
