Hamilton Recommends Verstappen a Possible Signing for Mercedes

SILVERSTONE – Lewis Hamilton is following with interest the possible arrival of Max Verstappen at Mercedes and states that he would fully recommend the move to his former rival. Last week, Toto Wolff, Mercedes boss, confirmed that he was exploring the possibility of signing Verstappen in the future, which sparked speculation about the possible departure of the four-time Red Bull champion to join Mercedes in 2026 or 2027. Hamilton, who switched from Mercedes to Ferrari during the winter, said he would wholeheartedly recommend driving for Mercedes if Verstappen asked for his opinion.

Of course. If anyone, anyone, asked me about Mercedes, it’s an incredible team with passion, they have great staff, it’s a great factory, a great environment to work in.

Hamilton also praised Verstappen’s current team, Red Bull, and said he regretted having underestimated his former rivals.

He comes from a great team and I think many, many years ago they asked me [about Red Bull], I think at that time I was a big fan of Mercedes, and I remember saying something about Red Bull being just a drinks company.

Hamilton arrives at his home race in Silverstone with an unprecedented streak of 12 consecutive podium finishes at the British circuit. Since joining Ferrari at the beginning of the year, Hamilton hasn’t achieved a podium finish in 11 races, but he hopes his home race will break that streak.

I hope and pray, yes. There’s always magic here at Silverstone, so I don’t really have to hope for that in the sense that the crowd is incredible.

Lewis Hamilton
He added that he hopes several factors can help his team, as they are not as strong as they used to be.
