The greatest superheroes are those we can identify with. We invest our time and money to see them succeed, admiring their achievements. However, we love them even more when they show their most human side, feeling pain, love, and sharing the same experiences as us. Demonstrating that, despite their feats, they are still flesh and blood. That has been the true superpower of Lewis Hamilton. Considered the best Formula 1 driver in history, with an estimated net worth of $450 million, Hamilton dominates the tracks and breaks records. He attends events like the Met Gala, has dated celebrities, and co-produced a film with Brad Pitt. Recently, Hamilton shared on social media an image with his dog Roscoe’s paw. The 12-year-old English bulldog passed away after a battle against pneumonia, a heartbreaking moment that the driver shared with his followers.

I had to make the most difficult decision of my life and say goodbye to Roscoe. It’s one of the most painful experiences and I feel a deep connection with anyone who has gone through the loss of a beloved pet. Although it was very hard, having him was one of the most beautiful parts of life, to love so deeply and be loved in return.

This display of vulnerability is what sets Hamilton apart. Sharing these types of moments with the world demonstrates his authenticity. In an interview, Hamilton shared how, as a child, he played F1 video games, and always chose Michael Schumacher, but when he signed with McLaren, he became Kimi Räikkönen. He even revealed that his family had to sell his PlayStation to buy a new helmet. Over the years, conversations with Hamilton have been revealing. His ability to connect with people and his authenticity make him even more admirable. In the summer of 2020, Hamilton spoke out in favor of social justice, sharing his own experiences of discrimination and harassment. He talked about the racism he suffered at school and the lack of support he received in the world of motorsport. Hamilton has openly shared his life, including the death of his dogs. Coco passed away in June 2020, and it was then that we met Roscoe, who accompanied Hamilton in interviews and events. Roscoe, adopted in 2013, was with Hamilton during six world titles and 84 victories. The dog, with its own Instagram account, amassed 1.4 million followers and even appeared in the F1 movie. Roscoe’s life is a reflection of the dream that all dog lovers yearn for their pets. Hamilton, for his part, has lived the Formula 1 dream that many of us yearn for. That’s why we appreciate our heroes having those unconditional companions, with their tails wagging and wet noses, regardless of whether they win or lose.
